About

The American Technology Venture Lab (ATVL) is a non-profit organization that delivers a next-generation, objectives-based mentoring and educational program for scalable, early-stage, science and technology-based ventures.

As a regional program based in Upstate South Carolina, ATVL complements community, academic, and corporate incubator, accelerator, and venture studio programs. We're on a mission to empower disruptive, top-tier innovation and entrepreneurship in the rapidly growing I-85 corridor from Clemson to Charlotte, the I-26 corridor from Columbia to Asheville, and even extending our reach to Atlanta, Charleston, Huntsville, Knoxville, and Raleigh.

The overall plan for ATVL is to operate one cadre per year, usually aligning with the regular school year. Each cadre will commence with approximately 20 early-stage ventures that will be raising their first capital, or they will be raising their A-round capital within 18 months of graduation and have protectable technology or a novel business concept that can grow to hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue and create thousands of high-paid, high-technology careers in a decade.

A small staff of facilitators assisted by student interns conducts one-day sessions where highly experienced mentors assist the ventures in determining their three most important objectives for the next eight weeks. The mentors include a diverse group of successful entrepreneurs, subject matter experts, angel and venture investors, and corporate executives. Between the sessions, mentors who select a venture volunteer four hours to help the ventures achieve those objectives. Mentors bring extensive knowledge, experience, and relationships, learning the founders' vision and guiding their progress to create a successful team. The resulting impact of the volunteer mentors' strategic management and business development contribution helps the founders and their venture achieve their full market potential.

The inaugural cadre of ATVL will be hosted at the Johnson College of Business and Economics at USC Upstate in Spartanburg, beginning March 1st, and continuing on April 26th, June 21st, and August 16th, 2024. Venture applications and mentor participants are requested to contact ATVL via the website by February 16th, 2024. Sponsors supporting entrepreneurial development are always welcome to contact us for more information.

OneSpartanburg, functioning as the Chamber of Commerce, tourism, and economic development center for Spartanburg County, has committed $10,000 to the American Technology Venture Lab Inaugural Cadre as a matching fund to contributions originating in Spartanburg County. Serving as a challenge to the Spartanburg Community, this commitment recognizes the impact of ATVL in empowering science and technology ventures to achieve their full market potential.
